Allen Manor features 24 one-bedroom apartments, two of them barrier-free, with an elevator, community room and laundry facilities. The building, located near downtown Grand Rapids, is close to churches and two blocks from The Rapid bus routes on Wealthy Street and Eastern Avenue.
Residents must be age 62 or older and meet HUD income guidelines. According to HUD regulations, each resident pays 30 percent of adjusted monthly income as rent, which includes heat, water and trash pick-up. Electricity is billed separately.
Allen Manor welcomes individuals or couples who meet the HUD age and income requirements, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, national origin or sexual orientation.
Community Life
Life at Allen Manor is comfortable and inviting, with regular opportunities to get to know your neighbors. Residents enjoy morning coffee hour, bingo, monthly birthday party potlucks and gathering in the community room to talk or watch TV.
The friendly staff and volunteers try to make things fun. The manager regularly brings in entertainers for the residents. The social services coordinator arranges special presentations and volunteer speakers on a variety of helpful and interesting topics.
Residents can be as active as they want and still enjoy the privacy of their own apartments. The people here really make this place a home!
