A safe haven for children instruggling urban neighborhoods
Lutheran Social Services of Michigan runs Neighborhood House in Saginaw to provide a safe haven for children in struggling urban neighborhoods. Neighborhood House offers educational and recreational activities for children and a hot dinner program for families.
Centered on children
Neighborhood House is filled with the noise and laughter of children every day. Some are painting colorful pictures, while others are playing basketball with friends or studying for a math test with their mentor. There are always a variety of educational and recreational activities to keep children busy after school and in the summer.
"My kids love all the activities at Neighborhood House, and I know they’re safe after school while I’m at work."
• After-school activities
• Homework help and tutoring
• Arts and crafts
• Sports, including Boxing Club
• Self-esteem programs
• Substance-abuse prevention

Hot dinner program
Families who are having a difficult time making ends meet are welcome to join us every evening for a nutritious hot dinner.
Mentors
At Neighborhood House, older teens and adults volunteer their time to be friends and mentors to the children. If you or someone you know would like to become a mentor, please call or visit for more information.
