Behind the scenes on a movie set

In January, 2010, Gary Sienkiewicz of Plymouth won one of the top silent auction items at Lutheran Social Services’ 75th anniversary celebration: a visit for two to the set of a movie being filmed in the Detroit area. The original date last spring fell through, and the prize donors, In Stock Marketing and Teamsters Local 337, couldn’t reschedule it until this week, when a select group visited the set of AWOL, a movie about the Vietnam War. We thank Gary for his patience, but we think he felt it was worth the wait. Here’s what he reported: “My wife and I felt privileged to have had this opportunity! Larry (from In Stock Marketing) was an excellent host and Kurt from the (Teamsters) transportation department couldn't have been more helpful. Everyone we spoke to on the set including the producers, the writer, wardrobe, makeup, actors all the way to the caterers made us feel welcome. We have never been on a set before so the information provided us by Larry and Kurt was very informative and helped us to understand what goes on on the set. It was an experience to be able to sit with the writer and producer to watch on a monitor and to listen on a headset to the scene being recorded just 50 feet away. All in all it was a great day with a group of very nice people and a new experience not many people will get to experience.”
