Seven poets submitted verses for consideration as Lutheran Social Services’ entry into a grant competition by the CTK Foundation. The winning entry is by John Elmore, public relations coordinator in Communications. All the entries were given to a panel of Central Services employees without any of the authors’ names attached, and John’s was the overwhelming first choice. Here is his poem:
Serving Hands, Loving Hearts
By John Elmore
To lend a hand, to wipe a tear,
A ready hug, a listening ear,
A caring home, a brand new start,
Words to mend a broken heart.
We bring Hope to help them face their pain,
Compassion that dries up the rain,
Solutions so they can start again,
As we share the love of Christ.
Over the next few days, we will be posting the other seven poem submissions on our blog and asking our Facebook fans to choose their favorite. Even though we chose Johns, doesn't mean that the other poems dont deserve to be heard!
