Here is a great reason to stop in and see the beautiful senior living community at The Terraces at MapleCreek, 2000 32nd St. SE, Grand Rapids. Come for a FREE CONCERT -- now moved to The Terraces Dining Room -- on Monday evening, Jan. 10, 2011, at 7 p.m. by the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, West Michigan's premier Big Band Jazz Ensemble.
You will hear some of the great big band charts from the ’40s and ’50s, along with their own upbeat arrangements, as they continually add to their “book” the newest compositions by the country’s leading composers.
WATCH THEM HERE ON YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKw6nXhur0A / This is the title track from their CD “Jazz on Tap” they performed at Founders Brewing Company, where they play once a month.
The group features a number of soloists, such as tenor saxophonist Greg Marsden, trumpeter Dan Jacobs, pianist Steve Talaga, trombonist Mike McLeod and others. The group also includes Mike Michewicz (sax), Max Colley III (trumpet), and Tim Froncek (drums, leader).
Bob Nixon, business manager and sax player, is the son of Terraces resident Roy Nixon. Bob is a music educator and has shared stage time with The Henry Mancini Orchestra, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Lou Rawls, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Vinton, The Temptations, The Bee Gees, Bob Hope, and Mickey Rooney. He continues to work as a freelance musician, contracting and leading orchestras for major shows in the Grand Rapids area. And that’s just Bob. The other members are just as experienced and accomplished.
Founded in 1977, this 17-member group has played with some of the world's top jazz musicians, such as Phil Woods, Ken Wheeler and Randy Brecker, as guest artists. In other words, these are great professionals. Don’t pass up this opportunity to hear the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra perform live in the Dining Room at The Terraces at MapleCreek. And best of all, it’s FREE!
