MapleCreek will celebrate Black History Month on Wednesday, starting with a soul food potluck in the break room at The Lodge from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A program at 2 p.m. in Trinity Chapel at The Terraces will include the 50-voice Ottawa Hills High School Gospel Choir, praise dancer Sherry McGhee, employee portrayals of famous African-American women, and guest speaker Laura B. Moody, RN, MSN, professor of nursing at Grand Rapids Community College. Special tribute will be paid to Lodge resident Shirley Allen, a founding member of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour of Grand Rapids. The celebration will conclude with a dessert reception at 3 p.m. in the Terraces Café.
